Zumba has taken the UK by storm! But what exactly is it and why do people love it so much? Here is everything you need to know about this fantastic exercise programme!
What is Zumba?
Zumba is an exercise fitness program created by Colombian dancer and choreographer Alberto "Beto" Perez during the 1990s. Zumba is a trademark owned by Zumba Fitness, LLC. We have been running Zumba classes in central Oxford for nearly 10 years so come along and join these fun workout sessions.
Zumba classes start with a warm up and then we get into some great dance routines to all sorts of rhythms, most of which are Latin-inspired, including Merengue, Salsa, Samba, Cumbia, Reggaeton and more!
You don't need exercise or dance experience to get started but if you have any health concerns please consult with your doctor before attending class.
Wear comfortable clothing suitable for a fitness class, be as colourful as you like! Well-fitting trainers are recommended, bring something to drink.
You will be working out at moderate to high intensity for an hour, you will be offered low and high impact choices within the routines and should work at level where you are breathing more heavily than normal but still able to talk. Do not expect to follow all the moves and the routines straight away, there will be repetition so you will learn them in your own time, meanwhile keep moving!
Zumba is great if you love dancing because the dance moves will keep you exercising and there's no time to be bored. It is also great if you are not a confident dancer because most of the moves are easy to follow (including a few tricky ones to give everyone a challenge) and there is lots of repetition so after a few weeks you will be dancing like a pro! The routines also include fitness moves to increase the cardio and resistance aspects of the routines.
